*** Willcare’s Wellington at Legacy X Int Ch Chambray’s Aggie Pride, CGC ***

For Aggie’s last breeding, we chose a stunning chocolate Labrador in New Hampshire named Wellington, who was bred by Willcare Labradors.  Willcare has been a top breeder of chocolates for the past 35 years.  Wellington has a great pedigree and it complimented Aggie’s bloodlines nicely.  Wellington has an incredibly calm temperament, which is characteristic of the Willcare dogs, and this trait is apparent in his puppies, including Roxy.

Roxy has been an attention-getter from early puppyhood and we knew immediately that her personality would be a perfect fit for our breeding program.  She has a beautiful, dark chocolate coat.  She is 70 lbs and has a lovely Lab head.  She earned her IABCA International Adult Championship.

She loves to retrieve on land or in the water.  She goes for daily swims in “her” pool.  She glides across the water and swims effortlessly.  She is great with kids and other dogs.  Roxy is co-owned by our good friends, the Chamber family, and lives with them in Odessa, FL.

Scott x Reba Puppies 2023 https://www.trupridelabradors.com/scott-x-reba-puppies-2023/ https://www.trupridelabradors.com/scott-x-reba-puppies-2023/#respond Wed, 11 Oct 2023 02:40:31 +0000 https://www.trupridelabradors.com/?p=3705 We bred Reba to a chocolate stud dog named “Scott”.  Scott was visiting the U.S. from Poland, and was staying with our friends Duke & Tina Donahue in Arizona.  Thank you for allowing us to use your boy to sire this litter. Click here to visit Scott’s website.

The Scott x Reba litter is quite the combination of championship pedigrees and some of the best kennels in the world.  I am thankful that we have been entrusted to continue on these strong conformation lines.  Reba’s sire is Cyrus, one of the winningest Labs in history with several wins at Potomac, the largest Labrador specialty show in the world, and the well-known Westminster Dog Show.  There are so many other great dogs in this pedigree, it is too many to list!

Labs 101 https://www.trupridelabradors.com/labs-101/ Mon, 18 Jun 2018 22:04:50 +0000 https://www.trupridelabradors.com/?p=3224 Below is a video that provides a good overview of the Labrador Retriever breed.  Remember a Labrador only comes in yellow, chocolate and black!  No silver Labs.  No champagne Labs.  You should question the ethics of any breeder producing any other color than yellow, chocolate or black.

The Labrador is a moderate dog, not extreme in any way. It is square or slightly longer than tall, of fairly large bone and substance. Its broad head and strong jaws should enable it to carry the largest game birds, such as Canada geese. Its heavy body set and strong legs enable it to swim and run powerfully. Its coat, which is short, straight and dense with a soft undercoat, is weatherproof and helps to protect it from icy waters. The Lab is a working retriever and should possess style without over refinement and substance without clumsiness.

Few breeds so richly deserve their popularity as the Labrador retriever. Devoted, obedient and amiable, the Lab is good with children, other dogs and other pets. It will be a calm house dog, playful yard dog and intense field dog, all on the same day. It is eager to please, enjoys learning and excels in obedience. It is a powerful breed that loves to swim and retrieve. It needs daily physical and mental challenges to keep it occupied, however; a bored Lab can get into trouble.

Although Labs can live outdoors in temperate climates, they are much happier indoors with their family.

HISTORY: The original Labradors were all-purpose water dogs originating in Newfoundland, not Labrador. Not only did the breed not originate in Labrador, but it also was not originally called the Labrador retriever. The Newfoundland of the early 1800s came in different sizes, one of which was the “Lesser” or “St. John’s” Newfoundland — the earliest incarnation of the Labrador. These dogs — medium-sized black dogs with close hair — not only retrieved game but also retrieved fish, pulled small fishing boats through icy water and helped the fisherman in any task involving swimming. Eventually the breed died out in Newfoundland in large part because of a heavy dog tax. However, a core of Labradors had been taken to England in the early 1800s, and it is from these dogs, along with crosses to other retrievers, that the breed continued. It was also in England that the breed earned its reputation as an extraordinary retriever of upland game. Initially breeders favored black Labs, and culled yellow or chocolate colors. By the early 1900s, the other colors had become acceptable, although still not as widely favored as the blacks. The breed was recognized by the English Kennel Club in 1903 and by the AKC in 1917. The popularity of this breed has grown steadily; it became the most popular breed in America in 1991 and remains so today.

Monday, 2/13 @ 8 pm – 11 pm.  Hound, Toy, Non-Sporting, Herding Groups

Tuesday, 2/14 @ 8 pm – 11 pm.  Sporting, Working, Terrier Groups and Best in Show

TV and Live Streaming Schedule: http://www.westminsterkennelclub.org/plan-your-visit/tv-schedule/

The Labrador Retriever that wins the “Best of Breed” award will vie for the Sporting Group title against other sub-category winners. Seven Best of Group winners later will compete for the overall title of Best in Show. According to the American Kennel Club, competition events are intended to evaluate breeding stock. To be eligible, a canine must be registered with the club, be age six months or older, be a breed for which classes are offered at the given show, and meet other requirements specific to its breed.

Dogs compete for points toward their AKC championship. Judges award points after examining a dog’s teeth, muscle, bones, coat texture and profile for overall balance, according to the AKC. Contestants also are judged on their gait.

To become a recognized champion, each canine needs 15 points, including two from major wins worth 3-5 points and from at least three different judges. Points are awarded depending on the number of entries of the breed in a show.

Grand champions must have earned 25 points under four different judges. They also need three major wins and to have defeated another Champion of Record in three competitive shows.
